PMS acne: Is it real?

Published by admin under Premenstrual acne

Acne has often been associated with hormones and women’s monthly mestruation cycle. A typical scanrio might be that your acne seems to be clearing up, but then breakouts erupt just around the time of your period. Premenstrual acne, often called “PMS acne” by those afflicted, is a real occurance according to a study conducted by Dr. Alan Shalita. Dr. Shalita’s studed four hundred female patients between the ages of 12 and 52. His findings indicated that 44 percent reported premenstrual acne breakouts. He also found that women aged 33 and older tended to suffer from breakouts around the time of their periods more often than did younger women. Monthly premenstrual breakouts can be controlled, however.  Some doctors have prescribed hormonal contraseptives to reduce premenstrual breakouts because they help regulate hormonal fluctuations.
